How To Make Your Blog Posts Turn Readers Into Buyers

Writing blog posts is easy!

Yep, you heard me right my friends. Writing blog posts is a piece of piss, especially when we’ve got our trending best friend AI at our fingertips to write them for us.

“But Jodie, if it’s so easy, why should I bother to read this blog post?”

Because I’m sure you don’t want blog posts written in seconds with no thought behind your business, your target audience or brand voice, sitting there amongst crickets chirping as loud as my Mum’s snoring (and believe me, that’s bloody loud!).

You want blog posts that speak directly to your readers’ pain points, keep them coming back for more posts and, in turn, make them grab your products or services.

So, how do we do this?

Before we get down to the nitty-gritty, we need to address the elephant in the room—conversion. That’s right, the fancy marketing term that makes small business owners want to rip their hair out.

Of course we want to turn your readers from casual browsers into paying customers. But you also don’t want to sound like a cheesy used car salesman desperately hawking your wares. So, what we’ll aim for is something far more sophisticated: organic conversion.

We want readers to be so impressed by your content and so utterly fascinated by your insights that they’ll practically beg you to take their money.

I’ve got 5 pillars to share with you that’ll help you convert those readers!

Right, shall we get going?

You know the drill, grab a cuppa, relax and let’s get to it!

The 5 Pillars Of Converting Blog Readers Into Buyers

Pillar 1: Know your readers inside out

You know when you’ve been to networking events, tried to have conversations with complete strangers and it’s felt a little awkward?

Your blog posts can have that effect on your readers too.

To give you an idea of my point, you wouldn’t write a technical SEO guide for a room full of OAPs. Instead, you tailor your content to a specific audience, understanding their needs, desires and the deepest, darkest corners of their internet browsing habits.

Before you put fingers to keyboard, you need to do some work first:

  • Who are you talking to? Think about your ideal buyers. What are their demographics, interests, pain points and goals? Are they stressed-out entrepreneurs or indecisive millennials? Create customer personas for each of your ideal buyers. The more detailed, the better.
  • What are their pain points? What keeps them up at night (besides watching TikTok at 3 am)? Identify their struggles and how your expertise can solve them. You could join forums, read reviews and engage in social media groups to gather insights.
  • How do they speak? Use the same language and terminology your audience uses. Do they prefer jargon-filled industry talk or friendly, down-to-earth explanations? Match your tone to theirs.

By truly understanding your audience, you can create content that resonates deeply, making them feel like you’re having a one-on-one conversation.

Pillar 2: Write scroll-stopping headlines

Let’s be honest, attention spans these days are shorter than a goldfish’s memory!

That means you need to be able to grab attention at any opportunity you can. That’s where your headline comes in!

It’s the first impression your readers get of your amazing content, so it needs to be irresistible. Here are some headline-writing hacks for maximum impact:

Be clear & specific

Don’t write a novel for a headline!

Aim for punchy and informative headlines that are easy to understand and jargon-free. Your readers should know exactly what they will gain by reading your post.

For example, “5 Proven Strategies to Boost Your Small Business’s Blog Traffic” is better than “How to Get More Blog Traffic.”

You can use free headline analyser tools from MonsterInsights or CoSchedule to see which headlines resonate best with your audience.

Include benefits & power words

Focus on the “what’s in it for me” factor. Highlight the positive outcome the reader will gain by clicking and reading your post.

For example, “Write Blog Posts Like a Pro in 3 Easy Steps (and Attract More Clients).”

You can also use power words like “proven,” “ultimate,” “essential,” and “secret” to make your headline more enticing.

Use numbers

People are drawn to lists and statistics. Use them to your advantage by incorporating numbers into your headlines.

Such a headline could be, “7 Common Blogging Mistakes That Are Killing Your Traffic (and How to Fix Them).”

Also, you could include measurable benefits in your headline rather than just saying your tips are “helpful”.

Like this headline – “Increase Your Website Conversions by 25% with These Simple SEO Hacks.” (Of course, make sure you can back up these claims with data.)

Pillar 3: Deliver value throughout

Alright, you’ve got their attention with a killer headline. Now, it’s time to deliver the goods – the actual content of your post.

Here’s where you become the expert, the sage on the stage, dropping knowledge bombs like nobody’s business.

But don’t get cocky! Because the truth is readers don’t care about how amazing you think you are. They want solutions!

So, pack your post with actionable tips they can use to conquer their struggles, making it informative and engaging to leave your readers wanting more.

Here are some tips:

Share actionable advice

Don’t just tell them, show them! People crave practical takeaways they can implement in their own lives or businesses.

You could share a step-by-step guide to break down complex processes into easy-to-follow steps.

Or maybe you have an array of handy tips that are specific and actionable that readers can use straight away.

You could even create downloadable resources such as cheat sheets, templates or checklists to give your readers valuable tools.

Give your readers variety

Nobody wants to eat the same bland meal every day, right? The same goes for blog posts.

Keep your readers interested by giving them variety in your content. You could use the power of storytelling and share a mix of personal stories, case studies, historical examples, etc.

Breaking up text with images, infographics or short videos will keep things visually intriguing while sprinkling humour into your blog post can go a long way in making your content more relatable and memorable (if it fits with your brand’s style).

Structure is important

Imagine a blog post as a rollercoaster ride. You want it to be exciting, but if it’s just a chaotic mess of loops and corkscrews, people are gonna get nauseous.

Structure is your safety harness, keeping your readers on track and preventing them from getting lost in a maze of text.

Be sure to use headings and subheadings so your readers know where they are and what to expect next.

You should also use bullet points and lists to break down information into bite-size chunks, as well as clear transition words and phrases to guide them smoothly from one point to the next.

Pillar 4: Include powerful CTAs

So, you’ve written a fantastic blog post. Your audience is riveted, hanging on to your every word.

But what happens next?

Don’t let them leave without a clear direction, the CTA (Call to Action). It’s your chance to nudge your readers towards the next step, the action you want them to take.

Make sure it’s clear and direct and highlights the benefits of why they should take action.

Here are some effective CTA examples:

  • Download a free guide – Offer a valuable resource related to your post topic in exchange for their email address.
  • Subscribe to our newsletter – Keep them engaged with regular content updates and exclusive offers.
  • Schedule a consultation – Make it easy for them to connect with you and discuss their specific needs.
  • Sign up for a free trial – Offer a taste of your paid services to entice them further.

Pillar 5: Promote, promote, promote

You’ve written a masterpiece, and now the world needs to know!

But blasting your blog post on every social media channel you can find isn’t the answer. Here are some strategic promotion tips:

  • Share on relevant platforms Target the social media channels your ideal audience hangs out at.
  • Engage with your community – Respond to comments, participate in discussions and build relationships.
  • Collaborate with others – Guest post on other blogs or partner with influencers in your niche.
  • Utilise SEO best practices – Optimise your blog post for search engines to attract organic traffic.

Bonus Tip: Be patient & persistent

Building a loyal readership and converting them into clients/customers takes time and consistent effort.

Don’t get discouraged if the results aren’t immediate. Keep creating high-quality content, promote strategically and watch your audience (and client base) grow over time.
